"Class B" Motorhome or RV

What Is A Class 'B" Motorhome

Class ‘B’ Motorhomes or RVs’ are also commonly referred to as “Sleeper Vans or Camper Vans”.  There are two main types of Class B RVs’. There is the Standard “B” and the “B+”.  Class Bs are the smallest class of RVs’. However, what they lack in size and amenities they well make up for in flexibility and agility. There should be virtually little problems picking up from a campsite and heading into town to get to the grocery store and back.

Standard Sizes

Standard Class B RVs have a typical length of 17’ to 23’ and about 9’ to 11’ in height. Where the B+ comes just a little larger ranging from 23’ to 25’ in length and still 9’ to 11’ in height. Both average an 18 to 25 miles per gallon (MPG). Which is equivalent to most larger vehicles on the market today.

Averaging in weight from 6 to 11 thousand pounds, (3 to 5.5 tons), making it not that much heavier than most standard vehicles. Plus, because of the lighter weight, anything under 26,000 pounds for most states, you do not need any special driver’s license to operate them. (Again, it is good practice to check in with your local State DMV regulations to be sure). Also, it would be a Great idea to take the time to get the feel for the way these larger “Tiny-Homes on Wheels” feel, before taking it out on a true camping experience.

Small/Agile Yet Accommodating

For the most part a Class B is a large van. So, they can navigate smaller, out of the way roads. Leading to more “Off the beaten Path” adventures. Plus because of their size they are easily stored in a driveway or large garage. Making it ideal for those who are unable to rent out storage space. They are also built on a van chassis, so they are made for easily access in and out of the RV.

They are small but they can still be retrofitted to be accommodating to your wants and needs. Many offer small kitchens, bathrooms (with and without bathing capabilities), and sleeping arrangements. There may be some origami folding of tables to beds and chairs that swivel to accommodate centralized conversations, but rest assured that these large vans are not just for traveling down the road. They are for minimalistic living. Just be sure you like who you are traveling with
