Multi-Room Tents

What Are Multi-Room Tents?

Multi-Room tents are pretty much what they sound like. A Tent with multiple rooms. They often have a very large footprint and higher pitches than most other styles of tent. This is a great option for larger families, or multiple families that want to go camping with each other. These multiple rooms are great for additional covered/enclosed areas for eating, playrooms for kids, additional storage, and of course a separate/private area for sleeping and or changing. Other than the fact that they are made of similar materials as most tents and require tent poles and guy lines to keep them upright, they resemble more of a house than a traditional tent.

Layouts and Set Up

Multi-room tents traditionally incorporate the A frame “wall tent” style of tent. With a typical center gathering room with separate rooms which branch off from the center room. Current Multi-room tents come in a variety of shapes and layouts. Tunnel tents are even starting to incorporate multiple rooms that branch off from a center room to compete with these multi-room tents.

Multi-room tents are typically used for multiple days of camping in one area. Mainly because of the amount of time and patients it takes to set these up and take them down. Some would say you have to be an engineering genius to construct these tents and an even bigger genius to pack them back down to fit into their carrying bags. However, multi-room tents have come a long way from the originals, where the poles and tent slots are labeled to match. Making them a little more dummy proof. Much like putting together an Ikea bookshelf. Recently, many multi-room tents are incorporating the inflatable pole technology used in inflatable tents. This make setting up and packing down these tents much easier and require less people to construct.

What To Buy? What To Buy?

With all the different styles and layouts of multi-room tents it is of best practice to do your research, talk to people, and ask questions before you get to invested into one. You should figure out what the best use of space will be for you and your family. When and where you are going to use it. How often you want to use it. Also, you should keep in mind who will be helping you set up and take down this tent. If it is just you, your partner and several kids under five years old, it might be a better option to look into the Tunnel Style or inflatable style multi-room tents, because they don’t require as many hands to construct and most likely can be put up by one person. If the Multi-Room style tent is the option you want to go with, just be sure to take your time and think about all the aspects of owning one, and shop through all the various styles and layouts that suits your needs.
